Burke County Public Health announced its Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program has received the Gold Breastfeeding Award of Excellence for 2024. The national recognition, presented by the United States Department of Agriculture, honored WIC programs that provided outstanding support to breastfeeding mothers and their infants, according to a release from the health department.
Burke County was one of seven WIC programs out of 89 in North Carolina to earn the award, reflecting its dedication to promoting and supporting breastfeeding in the community. Burke County Public Health’s WIC program was recognized for its dedicated team, who provided comprehensive services and resources to promote healthy outcomes for both mothers and babies, the release said. The Gold Breastfeeding Award of Excellence was awarded to WIC agencies that went above and beyond in providing breastfeeding education and promoting breastfeeding, public health said.
